more bunny pics.

new edition.

Me and matt (bf) decided to get another bunny today. It is a wee little baby bun. There was a huge bin full of them at Orscheln (local farm store) here in Murray and it was quite difficult to pick which one we wanted. After much contemplation and holding of buns, we decided on this little cutie. His name is Asher.

healthy soda! (kind of)

So, I generally try to eat healthily. However, like everyone, I sometimes give in to my cravings and consume bad things. One of my weaknesses is diet coke. I LOVE diet coke. Well, I have discovered the perfect, healthy alternative to this. Hansen's soda. There are a million different flavors and I always get the diet one's. They have no preservatives, no sodium, no caffeine (bummer if you need a pick-me-up), no sugar and no calories. The artificial sweetener isn't the bad stuff with aspartame (known to cause cancer in life-long diet soda drinkers), it is sweetened with Splenda (which is not bad for you like the others). I get mine at Kroger and enjoy the peach, strawberry-kiwi, and black cherry. But there are plenty of other flavors and I know they sell them at most health-food stores (whole foods markets and such). As my title says, it is "kind of" healthy. It doesn't really have anything in it that is of personal health value but I guess what I meant by the "healthy" part is that it isn't super bad for you like the others. Try some!

my spring break hobby.

I have been pidddling on the banjo a bit lately. Thanks to my friend Logan, I have learned a few songs and chords and such. But none of that fancy pickin'. Over spring break, he has lent me his banjo and I will be working diligently on getting better. That being said, i will have to be giving that one back at the end of next week. So... I need one. :)

Should I get a normal, standard style and learn all the hard stuff?

Or should I get an open-back and learn clawhammer style?

thoughts?

obsessed.

So, as most know, music of all sorts consumes my life. Right now, I have two singer obsessions.

#1 is Laura Stevenson. Great, unique voice. Tremendous songwriting. She is going to be playing in Louisville/Lexington 4 days in a row at the end of May. Let's go.

#2 isn't a singer. It's an opera role. I WANT TO BE FIORDILIGI. Therefore, I have been spending lots of my free time lately googling "Cosi fan tutte" (the opera) and you tubing Fiordiligi arias. Here are a few of my favorite performances.

I want these:

madness. over. thank. God.

Well, all 5 auditions are done, over, finished. The UK audition was this weekend and went fairly well, (it was the damn entrance exams that consumed my soul). I will post as I hear good/bad/neutral news about schools. :)

Now more time for this business...

I'm in a cooking mood.

Sometimes, cooking is a necessity. It just has to happen. I am pretty sure I want to make some lovely bird cookies. Mine won't look this fantastic but I have to get some inspiration somewhere, right?

I was rolled over by a boulder.

Well, with good news generally comes bad news. Earlier in the week, I heard some fantastic news about some University of Louisville scholarhip. Well, last night, I received news of no scholarship from University of Colorado, Boulder. I was accepted though, which is pretty grand in itself. One acceptance with money, One acceptance with no money, one rejection, and 2 unknowns. I need answers!

music time of day.

Jesse Sykes. If you want a beautiful voice with some extremely penetrating lyrics, here you are.

Wooden wand. Acoustic/Indie/Folk/Punk (it doesn't get much more vague than that)

Hey Rosetta! Indie rock goodness.

my aristocratic self.

Sitting on my couch, minding my own business. My boyfriend keep staring at me. I say, "yes?" He says, " You have the profile and look of an 18th century aristocratic lady." I was bored, so this sent me googling. I found this. And I liked it.

Then this. And liked it. For much different reasons.

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Great movie directed by Wes Anderson, (Royal Tenenbaums, the Life Aquatic, Rushmore, the Darjeeling Limited). The screenplay is based on a best-selling children's book written by Roald Dahl. Check it out.

my morning lover.

Every morning of my life, (I suppose afternoons and evenings are included as well), I drink tea. I just can't get enough of it. Black tea, white tea, green tea, peppermint, blueberry, oolang, constant comment, morning thunder, earl grey... the list goes on and on. This is a dedication to my one true love.

currently reading...

My current reading choice. Good one to just pick up when you have time. As it says, it is about listening to music in the 20th century.

lovely music.

As promised, here is some more fantastic music to look into. :)

Horse Feathers. Very folky, very chill- good summer Saturday evening listening music.

This is an opera. With which I am obsessed. Because it contains my dream role (Fiordligi). Check it out. Even if you have never listened to opera. It's exciting.

Another opera. A 20th century one by Phillip Glass. Have you seen the movie "The Hours"? If you have, did you like the music? Then you will like this. (Note: if you haven't seen "The Hours" or read the book- shame on you and go find now. And if you saw it and you didn't like the music... well... we probably shouldn't be friends anymore.)

I love bunnies. I love kitties.

Good news.

So, as many know, I am in the waiting phase of my graduate school application process. I have auditioned at 4 out of my 5 schools and am doing my last audition this weekend at UK. I got an acceptance letter to U of L (my last choice school) last week. I have been nervously awaiting the scholarship letters from all schools. Well... today I received my first one. Got home from work and there it was... waiting for me. After staring at it for a few minutes, I opened it and discovered I was offered the top graduate fellowship at U of L with one semester of participation in the Kentucky Opera young artist program. Well, to say the least, U of L is starting to look like a pretty great choice. Yay!!
