my aristocratic self.

Sitting on my couch, minding my own business. My boyfriend keep staring at me. I say, "yes?" He says, " You have the profile and look of an 18th century aristocratic lady." I was bored, so this sent me googling. I found this. And I liked it.

Then this. And liked it. For much different reasons.

Fantastic Mr. Fox

Great movie directed by Wes Anderson, (Royal Tenenbaums, the Life Aquatic, Rushmore, the Darjeeling Limited). The screenplay is based on a best-selling children's book written by Roald Dahl. Check it out.

my morning lover.

Every morning of my life, (I suppose afternoons and evenings are included as well), I drink tea. I just can't get enough of it. Black tea, white tea, green tea, peppermint, blueberry, oolang, constant comment, morning thunder, earl grey... the list goes on and on. This is a dedication to my one true love.

currently reading...

My current reading choice. Good one to just pick up when you have time. As it says, it is about listening to music in the 20th century.

lovely music.

As promised, here is some more fantastic music to look into. :)

Horse Feathers. Very folky, very chill- good summer Saturday evening listening music.

This is an opera. With which I am obsessed. Because it contains my dream role (Fiordligi). Check it out. Even if you have never listened to opera. It's exciting.

Another opera. A 20th century one by Phillip Glass. Have you seen the movie "The Hours"? If you have, did you like the music? Then you will like this. (Note: if you haven't seen "The Hours" or read the book- shame on you and go find now. And if you saw it and you didn't like the music... well... we probably shouldn't be friends anymore.)

I love bunnies. I love kitties.

Good news.

So, as many know, I am in the waiting phase of my graduate school application process. I have auditioned at 4 out of my 5 schools and am doing my last audition this weekend at UK. I got an acceptance letter to U of L (my last choice school) last week. I have been nervously awaiting the scholarship letters from all schools. Well... today I received my first one. Got home from work and there it was... waiting for me. After staring at it for a few minutes, I opened it and discovered I was offered the top graduate fellowship at U of L with one semester of participation in the Kentucky Opera young artist program. Well, to say the least, U of L is starting to look like a pretty great choice. Yay!!

i need.

eeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Bluegrass music consumes my soul.

Canciones de Espanol es mi favorita.

love. love. love.

Sharing.

I sing opera... well classical music in general... artsong, oratorio, etc. I am starting a Master's program for this in the Fall. But I like other music... sometimes more... sometimes less... than classical music. It is very commonly a LOVE-HATE relationship for me. That is why I like LOTS of other music. People commonly ask me to share music with them so here goes nothing. I will add more every week/day/hour as I feel compelled.

Mean Jeans is a new favorite. Probably considered to be in the punk rock genre, it doesn't quite fit the classical, opers-singer mold. Happy-go-lucky springtime happy dance music.

Mumford and Sons is a new fav as well. This is quite comparable to the Avett Brothers- rock and roll attitude meets folky bluegrass acoustic instruments. This is a Saturday morning favorite.

Eef Barzelay=love. Singer/songwriter type who I am convinced is more a songwriter than singer. But so good. Good melancholy mood music.

Volcano Choir- calling classical music peeps. This is Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) singing with lots of noise/looping/20th century type stuff. good bedtime music.

I give in.

Blogging. Doing this has honestly never appealed to me. I mean, blogs are great. I spend a great deal of my work day looking at blogs: fashion, cooking, eco-lifestyle, vintage, photography, etc, etc, etc,. But finally, in an effort to get some of my random, obscure interests/obsessions out of my head, I have started a blog. So, here is my best effort at being a blogger. My main purpose: to share 2 very distinct musical passions with you: classical... and everything else. And since that could potentially get quite boring, I will throw in some of the other cool stuff I enjoy in life too.
